Plus, Mom’s much stricter than Dad. If I do something bad, Dad will sometimes just wink and say, “Don’t do that again, Henry.” This makes Mom go ballistic, and usually causes a HUGE argument. She always complains about having to be the family disciplinarian and how she and Dad are supposed to be “on the same page.” I sure wish I knew where that page is so I could read it ahead of time.

But Dad’s not a good choice, either. He’s a hypochondriac, which is someone who thinks he’s sick or going to be sick real soon. So he’s always spraying counters and handles with all kinds of cleaners to kill germs. When he reads that line about “rodent-borne disease,” he’ll go nuts. I bet he knows at least seven diseases you can catch from squirrels.

I’ve heard that sometimes people sleepwalk to the refrigerator in the middle of the night and eat huge snacks without remembering anything about it the next day. I thought about staying up late at night to see if either Mom or Dad gets up for a midnight bag of Oreos. It would be a great time to get one of them to sign the slip! I needed the signature RIGHT AWAY, so I had to try THAT NIGHT.…
